Citizen Charter

  • Aims & Objectives of the Department:

    • Maintenance of accuracy in all weights & measures used in transaction and protection.
    • Protection of consumers against cheating in weights & measures in transaction and protection.
    • To ensure correct quantities in Weights, Measures and Packaged Commodities.
    • To ensure correct display of fare in Auto Rickshaw meter to actual distance travelled by the Auto.
    • To ensure mandatory declaration on Packaged Commodities.
    • To ensure sale of Packaged Commodities at the price (MRP) marked on the packages.

    In order to achieve the above goal the Department enforces and implements the Legal Metrology Act, 2009 and the Rules framed there under.

    We Deliver the Following Services:

    • Verification and stamping of weights, measures, weighing and measuring instruments as per provisions of the Legal Metrology (General) Rules,2011 and issue of verification certificate thereof.
    • Calibration of Storage Tanks used in transaction and protection and issue of calibration charts thereof.
    • Issue/renewal of licenses to the manufacturer/dealer/repairer of weights and measures.
    • Registration of manufacturer/packer/importer of pre-packed commodities.
    • Checking and determination of net quantity and error in packaged commodities at the premises of the manufacturers or packers.
    • To protect the consumers' interest conducts inspections/ surprise inspection for detecting violation of the provisions of the Legal Metrology Laws and to take legal action against the erring traders, farms, companies etc by registering prosecution cases.
    • Compounding offences as per provisions of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009 by realizing fee as prescribed in Rules.
    • Sending prosecution cases, if not compounded by the offenders, to the Court of law for trial.

    Our Aim is to Achieve the Following Service Delivery/Quality Parameters:

    1. Verification and stamping of weights, measures, weighing and measuring instruments. With in 1 to 12 hours from presentation by users The time limits depends upon the nature of the weight or measure and the time required for repairing/adjustment.
    2. Calibration of Storage Tanks 1 to 7 days The time limits depends upon the volume of the Storage Tank
    3. Issue/renewal of licenses to the manufacturer/dealer/repairer 15 days If the required documents are found complete/correct.
    4. Registration of manufacturer/packer/importer 15 days If the required documents are found complete/correct.
    5. Checking and determination of net quantity 15 days from the date of receipt of complaint Net quantity checking may also be done without receipt of complaint.
    6. To protect the consumers' interest conducts inspections/ surprise inspection for detecting violation of the provisions of the Legal Metrology Laws No fixed time limit The Legal Metrology Officers carries inspections on a regular basis.
    7. Compounding offences Max. 30 days from the submission of application for composition It depends on the time required for submission of the offence report by the concerned Legal Metrology Officers
    8. Sending prosecution cases Max 6 months to 12 months As per provision of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973.
